It’s amazing what can happen in a month. When we last spoke Otis had just started licking various spreads off toast – if you could see him now. A list of what Otis has eaten today:
breakfast
1 piece of toast with boiled egg
1 piece of toast with lamb stew
half a banana
morning tea
1 baby muesli bar
lunch
2 potato and lentil balls
1 baby muesli bar
1 orange and coconut muffin
afternoon tea
muesli crunch biscuit
dinner
2 pieces crumbed flathead
1 piece of toast with avocado
half a banana
Of course he’s not eating every last scrap of these foods, but more and more seems to be going in his mouth. He’s put on a bit of weight, and is so much happier.
The most exciting of Otis’ food related news is that he’s just started drinking out of a cup. We had been playing with a cup in the bath for the longest time, but he hadn’t ever shown a lot of interest in it. Then all of a sudden he started letting us put it in his mouth, and now, only 5 days later, he’s enthusiastically guzzling down milk!
And to prove that everything happens at once, we have also been offered a childcare place. After exhausting all the other options to help with Otis’ eating, we decided to try childcare, the idea being that seeing and being with other kids eating might inspire him to try. A little while ago we visited a really nice community childcare centre where we have been on the waiting list for almost a year. We talked to them about our food issues, and they decided to put us at the top of the list. Last week, we were offered 3 days a week starting in a month. Now that Otis is eating more and more I am doubtful that we will need to take up the offer, and knowing how hard it is to get childcare I would feel terrible at taking someone else’s place on false pretences. So for now the childcare thing is a wait and see.
In other news my sister had a baby girl, Olivia, yesterday. We are all very excited and are sending our love to the newest Laurence baby.
Hope to see you soon xox
