it has been a while since the adventures of otis were updated so there are many things of note to report from the world of otis ...
otis laughs
otis has developed a little laugh. it appears to be made in response to particular sounds - the squeaking of a toy, the chirping of a bird or the hiccoughing of his mother. on a recent trip away the good people at babywayne films made a short movie of laughter ... you will need to have the sound up.
otis sits
in a recent development otis has begun to sit up by himself. this is a whole new world. despite, occasional, and graceful, falls backwards and the odd lurching faceplant otis really enjoys being semi-erect. in his seated state otis seems to be particularly fascinated by envelopes, perhaps indicating a career in mail sorting.
aunty ili comes to visit
a couple of weeks ago aunty ili came and stayed with us for about ten days. otis was very excited to spend time with his aunt. there were a number of adventures including a couple of trips to the swimming pool. we all went to northcote pool one hot afternoon hoping to enjoy a rereshing dip. of course, we were thwarted by the lack of heating in the outdoor pools - even the infant pool was like some kind of arctic fishing hole. we were, however, advised by the secretary of the northcote swim club that some form of pool heating may be being considered for the summer of 2018.
otis goes to mt martha
a couple of weekends ago we all ventured down to mt martha with our friends miles and louisa where we stayed in louisa's family's holiday home. it was a lovely weekend and a very relaxing trip, except or otis having a couple of disturbed nights sleep. there were some walks by the beach and a very stylish game of tennis on a court without a net.

otis turns six months and moves out
a week ago otis celebrated his first half birthday. the celebration appeared to consist of being weighed and measured, which revealed that the previous month included 3 cm of growth. this was a source of relief to otis' parents who had become increasingly concerned that the only parts of his body that were growing were his stomach and his cheeks.
the very next day otis moved into his own bedroom (where he is currently sleeping peacefully.) it was a little strange at first for him not to be in the same room us, but it certainly seems that all three of us are getting better sleep.
i believe technical probs are now sorted - bring on the fillum
