He's finally here, our beautiful son. So far new parenthood has been a whirlwind of excitement and wonder, and some sleeplessness. Sometimes I look at him and I want him to stay as he is now, so small and cute, and others I think I can't wait until he's crawling/walking/talking. He's not even 5 weeks old and already he is changing and growing so quickly - almost every day he makes a new sound (mostly grunts and the occasional squeal), his movements get less jerky, his clothes a little shorter.
His birth was all pretty straight forward - 12 hours of labour, no drugs - except for some gas when they were doing the stitches. He was born at the Family Birth Centre at the Royal Women's, and the staff there were so fantastic and supportive. In the lead up to his birth I had had occasional moments of panic about our decision not to attend a private hospital, but in the end we were both very happy with our experience at the FBC.
We have both been so overwhelmed by how generous and supportive everyone has been since Otis was born - we have received so many beautiful gifts and well wishes. Our deepest thanks to all of our friends and relatives who have visited, written and called.
Who does he look like?
hello Otis!
what a cutie, he is so lovely - all that wide-eyed innocence, cute baby clothes and charming good looks. Congrats guys - i can't wait to meet him in person.
Love Phil

well, if he had dreadlocks...and the noises you describe sound just like dad...then again, times i've seen mum sucking her thumb - there's a striking resemblence to you both!
